Do camcorders that use Firewire cables are also able to use a USB port?

Yes, but often for different purposes and only if the cam has two styles of ports. For example, I use firewire on my Panasonic cam for video output in a program editing. I use a USB port to output images (I never take pictures with the camcorder). The technologies are not interchangeable If your camera has both. Firewire and USB use different ports and different cables, they are not compatible.
