New Sony PMW-EX1 XDCAM is a powerful and very smart camcorder. The EX1 has a 14 X objective Fujinon HD, three 1/2-inch CMOS sensors and high resolution 3.5 "LCD with reflective panels for clear display in bright sunlight. 1/2-inch CCD allows a higher resolution and greater depth of field than 1 / 3 'CCD commonly used in prosumer camcorders. By using Sony's MPEG-2 Long GOP CODEC and during the recording their new "swap" SxS card system memory, this camcorder can record up to 140 minutes of HD footage on a single charge using two 16 GB cards! Files can also be exported in the IT-friendly MP4 format compatible with many portable electronic devices such as sharing iPods or files online.

The user has the option of recording at rates 2 – either 35 Mb / s for a high quality 1280 x 720 HD or space saving 25 Mb / s mode (1440 x 1080) a lower resolution compatible with the HDV format.

For the user more advanced and creative features EX1; selectable gamma curves, the variable frame rates for "Slow & Quick Motion" (commonly called "Overcranking" and "sub-Boot"), "time elapsed" registration and profile function Picture leave its pre set by the user 6 modes for different looks. Another great feature are the indicators for assessing Depth-of-field/Histogram and easy control of focus and exposure! The lens included servo also supports auto-focus, and sliding the ring back it snaps in full manual mode with "hard stops" and positions developed states marked in both meters and feet.

Most PMWEX3 Sony version is basically the same camera but adds a system of interchangeable lenses, shoulder-mount, Gen-lock and timecode in / out jacks and an 8-pin interface for complete studio control at a distance.
