The PlayStation 2 network adapter has been launched by Sony Computer Entertainment in 2001 (although it did not in North America until 2002), and is a device that allows you to connect your Playstation 2 to the Internet to play games online. Unlike Sony, Sega decided that gambling online is the future, and with the Dreamcast console to the point, they have online gaming a real possibility for most people, despite collapse by thereafter. Once Sony has seen what Sega have been made and the success they experienced, they decided it was time to join the line party.
The Playstation 2 has succeeded where the XBOX failed because Xbox users were forced to pay a monthly fee to use XBOX Live functionality, and participate in online games. This was quickly taken away the casual gamer, as most people do not pay unnecessary subscriptions row. That broadband Internet has become increasingly accessible and fairly priced, the draw of online gaming has increased. The next generation console (like the PlayStation 3 and Xbox 360) paved the way for online gaming. However, there has been a recent movement to see players once again return to their console PlayStation 2 to play any games online that they could at the time, because of their Internet connection is too slow.
