Security Camera Lenses Explained

Technical question about security camera … what lens do I need?
I need to get my neighbors drug dealing activity in video. I do not know what kind of camera to buy. The issues are about thirty feet away, and I want to make sure you get clear video. Can anyone explain about lenses wide, which could have a better image, 3mm or 6mm?
There is not enough detail to tell. The focal length of a lens only, not give any information about the field of view that at the 30ft. It is also necessary to know the size of the sensor to be able to tell. Or if glasses or lens of the camera is viewing angle, which is even better. The size of the different sensor behind the lens focal length that will produce different angles of vision. Most sensor, the smallest angle. If you know the angle, you can use simple geometry to find the field of view of a camera. This article may help explain which is also http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/ Field_of_view this: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Field_of_view The only thing I can say is that 6 millimeters will be twice to get close as 3mm. Then, 3 mm is a wider view, and 6mm will be more than a close-up (both have given the same sensor size). But if you get too big, you lose detail if you get too close, the action can happen out of sight of the camera, or faces get cut-off. That's all I can tell from available information. Sorry, could not help you more without the extra data. LEM.
