Is the Nikon D300 with 18-200mm VR Lens camera a good entry level?

I am taking this fall photo 1 and photo 2 in the spring. Does this camera can be very complex for a first SLR? I found this combination in ritzcamera.com for about $ 2,500 … as much as I would like to pass. I am a biology major and I want to do nature photography and landscapes … like wild animals. I also want to start a process camera waterproof for when I'm on the field and also so that I can do some underwater photography. I was looking for cases of www.keepitdrycase.com, but I have looked at reviews about them yet, so I do not know how good they are. I'm new to all this, then feel free to throw in your 2 cents about my ideas:)

Hi Froda. This is just on the whole more enjoyable than you could imagine. Not exactly an entry level and many professionals are using the Nikon D300. But let's just say that you take the picture as a duck to water … then you would want a more advanced camera anyway so you are one step forward, if you get it now. Good camera … good lens .. good deal. Just be sure to get a flash, a memory card and gig 2-4 a tripod with the whole. I hope I was able to help. Thanks for reading. )
