How Does Camera Lenses Work
How does the numbering system to work the camera lens?
I was shopping for a film camera, and I do not understand the system numbering for the lenses. They have two numbers separated by a dash, I saw it 28-40 to 70-200, and all kinds of things in between. Can anyone explain? Also, if anyone knows, this same numbering applied to the lenses movie too?
These numbers are focal lengths in millimeters. When everyone shot 35mm film, these figures had a sort of universal significance, as for the expansion of a lens has. But with digital, which changes as av cameras dfferent sizes of sensors (as opposed to all cameras with the same image area – a 35mm film negative). The result is that the distance length in mm not say precisely what the magnification of the lens is (if you do not know the size of the sensor and can do the math) In any case … Narrow When there are 2 numbers is the zoom lens. The lower number represents the smallest focal length greater (filed of view) and the higher the number represents the longest low power to medium telephoto power. I would like to have at least 2 lenses, but I do not like big gaps in my grasp. So if you had a 28-40 lens and a 70-200, you miss the most "normal" focal lengths 40-70. But a lot of people have a high quality fixed focal length 50mm different.
