Do Digital Cameras Take Videos
How do I connect a camcorder JVC camera to your computer? Can I put videos on your computer to edit them?
I'm using a digital video camera JVC for a project and need to know how to get the videos on your computer. I also need to edit them, preferably with Windows Movie Maker, it is all I have. The camera uses MiniDV tapes. So you know if is possible or not?
Your computer must have a firewire port. USB is used only to transfer photos from memory card (perhaps USB streaming – most camcorders can not do this). Laptops usually use PCMCIA slots or ExpressCard, desktops use PCI slots. Firewire, i.LINK, IEEE1394 and DV are all the same thing. USB will not work. Even if, by some miracle, you manage to get USB streaming work, the video quality will not be transferred DV (HDV or, if your camcorder has this capability). Things USB firewire converter / adapter / cable will not work. three alternatives: 1) Get another computer that has a firewire port. 2) Get an external drive and get a computer with a firewire port. Save the imported video to disk external hard drive, cycle to your computer. 3) Get an "analog / digital bridge" that connects via USB. Pinnacle Dazzle makes. Video quality will be reduced – but not as bad as USB streaming. Since you did not tell us that computer, it is as much help as possible.
