Many will agree that Olympus is not exactly a "tiny". But they are when it comes to digital SLR market.

In March 2006, Olympus launched the Olympus EVOLT E330, a camera that is one-of-a-kind: it is the only digital SLR with a display mode live on the LCD.

This may not sound like a novelty for you. After all, every compact digital camera out there, show you the picture that you about to take on the LCD.

But it is not standard in digital SLR cameras.

With any SLR you should look through the viewfinder to compose a photography. You can only use the LCD to review photos and menus change.

That's it.

The LCD makes live EVOLT E330 a single camera. It is made even more by a vibration sensor that clears up the dust every time you turn on the camera.

This feature is also unique for cameras Olympus – If dust on the sensor of your Canon or Nikon, you have to clean it yourself (a complicated operation) or have it professionally cleaned.

Canon compared

Canon release new camera this year is the 30D.

Despite the addition of some new features, this camera is virtually identical to the 20D, launched in 2004.

While the 20D broke a lot of ground for digital SLR cameras, the 30D is totally normal. It's a small update to a camera that sold exceptionally well.

The 30D has unique features such as the Olympus E330.

Does this mean we all go rushing out to buy Olympus cameras and falling sales of Canon, as a brick?

I doubt it.

Also many photographers already have an investment in Canon lenses, so a Canon digital SLR is the natural choice, regardless of whether or not the camera is innovative.

Still, it seems a shame that a leader can establish a market position and grind out products with nothing new to offer.

The Time will tell if this approach is successful. Eventually Canon may have to adopt the new technology pioneered by the competition.

While this may occur to a loss of market share, I hope he does not have to come to that.

As an enthusiast digital SLR I like innovation, because I believe that digital technology SLR still has some secrets that have not been disclosed.

What remains to be seen is that the company finds them first.
