best digital camera to take pictures indoor basketball high school without blur?

I love my Canon PowerShot S3 and takes great pictures outdoors, but not within and not when subjects are at a basketball court. I like to stay within the family of Canon cameras (decrease the learning curve) and can pay $ 1,000. to $ 1,200. for a new camera but I am sure where to start or if it is not realistic to think that a camera for price range that will deliver what I want. Thank you!

The best you can do to it is used a Canon 30D to say keh.com and a 85mm f/1.8 lens. You will have to be on the edge although the court. You can also get 40D, but you may not be able to keep it in that price range. Its still going to be a challenge to get good pictures because the DOF is so small that f/1.8 is probably what you'll have to shoot. You are definitely going to have to shoot in manual mode, using RAW files and then touch them until later.
