Help camera cleaning?

so over the summer I was given a Konica Minolta DiMAGE Z5 digital camera that was my aunt who died. Unfortunately I I really had a reason to use it until now and where the batteries go is all this for such things I'm guessing that came from one of the scouts and pieces of plastic on the lid that holds the batteries broke. I have not looked at how much it will cost or anything, but if anyone out there knows or knows cameras well I really appreciate you answering back and let me know if its going to be a waste of time and money and as you might think. here is a link to the type of camera I have http://ca.konicaminolta.com/products/consumer/digital_camera/dimage/dimage-z5/index. html

I have to disagree with your recommendation Fishmeister to solve this problem, although his advice is usually excellent. The mold "filthy" material is the corrosion of chemicals that leaked from cells is usually acidic in nature as using vinegar can remove the mud, but can also increase the acid, it is a weak acid, too. I worked at a camera store for years and always used alcohol or denatured alcohol on a cotton swab to clean the battery connections corroded because it was less likely that damage the circuit boards and wiring. I would suggest cleaning the battery connections and use a new set of batteries to see if the camera works. As suggested Fishmeister tape the battery cover in place to maintain a good connection. If the camera works with this simple fix, so I recommend having a workshop to estimate the cost of replacement the battery cover. If they can do it for a reasonable price, so I had to do, otherwise I would use it with duct tape in place and start save for a current model. + + + Fishmeister, Thanks for your reply. I think the hint of vinegar is a quick solution that works for a short time, but the acidic coating on wires and solder joints eventually causes them to deteriorate.
