Digital Cameras Iso

What exactly is the ISO in relation to digital cameras?

I'm looking to get a Canon A700, and looking at photographs of sample http://www.steves-digicams.com/2006_reviews/a700_samples.html photos in ISO800 and 400 are very grainy/noisy- Why? This is something I should look at the past, or pay more attention?

ISO rating to determine the shutter speed and aperture lens. regualted They are basically the limits sensor and in the case of a large number ISO sensor elements could be matched or even qudrupled (which means a decrease of resolution). senstivity ISO is the light. Used be called ASA. eqivalent is half or full f-stops of light. It is basically a digital camera, which is a volume control is a walkman. ISO low (100, 64) is like turning down the volume (senstivity to light). While a higher ISO (400 or 800) is the volume (senstivity) full on. This means that you can take pictures in low light, as in a flash withouyt building or the streets at night. The very high ISO (1000 or 1600) may mean a reduction in resoutltioni becaue 2 or 4 pixels are used to increase the power of light gathering. In photographic film ISO is directly related to the size of grains of silver. Larger grains are more senstive to light, while smaller grains are less senstive and provide greater detail, especially in expansions. CMOS / CCD sensor of a digital camera has both an upper and lower threshold. The ISO setting is like a volume control. At ISO 1600 you may have trouble shooting of a beach or a snow scene in the summer, because the camera can not stop the lens or to a shutter speed fast enough. ISO 100 can not be shooting in low light, as in a house with lights house. A higher ISO makes the shutter speed faster (per share) and a lower ISO makes both the shutter speed and lens aperture (F stop) higher. This is for low light.
