It was only by chance I found this an ideal solution to solve the problem of always having to worry about keeping my digital camera protected from both elements, and much beats around.

I was wanting a replacement for my dive camera and in the process of researching alternatives, I came across this new generation of cameras underwater that work equally well out of the water. Even better is that they still lightweight and compact enough to make sense as a replacement for my use of the land only camera digital.

So what's the point? I just got fed up with digital cameras that can take a little sand or water. When is usually most of the pictures? How about when on field trips to new places or while on vacation or on vacation. Where can often do these things? Beaches, mountains covered with snow, rivers, hiking trails – the list goes on.

Most of our photos are taken in environments where there is a better chance than the average that our camera will get wet, muddy or knocked about. Instead of worrying about spray or a little rain, and dropping it in everything from sand snow would not useful if these technological marvels were just a little tougher?

Well, a handful of camera manufacturers diving apparently got the message, because they produced some multi-purpose tough digital cameras waterproof. Better yet is unlike its predecessors, which can be had for a much more reasonable price.

For predecessors, I mean the super-expensive underwater cameras for special cases with special divers and photographers submarines used. They are bulky and awkward to deal with water and when they could remove the camera from the box itself, that kind of defeats the purpose, as we back to the original problem of having to take extra care to protect the camera.

But these cameras dive latest generation units are integrated, where the camera is made in a waterproof case made of composite materials, impact resistant and rubber armored in all key positions. Dropping them from various feet to leave them undisturbed.

They are lightweight (about one pound) and compact (less than 4 x 5 inches), and despite its small size, offer superb image quality with ultra-sharp, high-resolution images even in low light conditions, such as those found underwater. Prices are comparable greater use of the land end of the digital camera.

Of particular use are the settings that can be changed, depending on whether you are shooting above or under water. Even if you're not a diver there are models made for snorkeling, and even waterproof to only about 10 meters or more, are less expensive. This is a good news, especially if your main concern is to find a more robust digital camera that will not go out after being splashed in the lake or left in the rain.
