Best D-SLR and compact digital cameras?

Hi I am looking forward to buy a camera cost more than £ 200. I never used or bought before D-SLR I'm wondering if I should consider? There is a huge difference between the two? Can I get a good D-SLR with a good lens for £ 200, or should I just buy a good digital compact? Any help will be appreciated. Doing a little research I found these 2 cameras in my price range: Panasonic Lumix DMC-FZ 35 Canon PowerShot SX20IS Which of these do you think is better to consider im using D-SLR for the first time? You think I can find a compact camera to compete for these two a better price?

The debate between buying a DSLR and a compact or "bridge" digital camera comes down to two things: 1) Size of the sensor and 2) The ability to change lenses to suit the conditions. The DSLR gets two points. Consider two representative cameras, a Canon A230 and Canon G11 bridge "camera." Both cameras are 10mp. The A230 sensor measures 23.6 millimeters x 15.8 millimeters (373 square millimeters), while the G11 sensor measures 7.6 millimeters x 5.7 millimeters (43 square millimeters). With a sensor that is 8.7 times higher, the individual pixels of the A230 are vey large compared with the pixels of the G11. Most pixel can collect more data, to file a softer image and ability to make large prints. Larger pixels also perform better in situations low light and higher ISO settings. The G11 has a permanently attached lens with a maximum aperture of f2.8 at wide setting (6.1 mm 28 millimeters equivalent) f4.5 at telephoto setting (30.5 millimeters, 140 millimeters equivalent). When shooting outdoors or indoors using flash, this lens is enough. If, however, you want to shoot without flash indoors, then it becomes a problem. Your only option is to use a high ISO (800 and above) and then use an editing program of post-processing to clean up the resulting digital noise that results from using a high ISO with a camera, as G11. The A230 offers the option to change lenses to suit the conditions you're shooting under. To shoot in low light without flash to preserve the lower ISO? Simply switching to a 50mm f1.4 lens. Unsure as to what this means? Look at this hypothetical framework. ISO 800 f1.4 @ 1 / 125 sec. F2 @ 1 / 60 sec. F2.8 @ 1 / 30 sec. (G11 in 6.1mm/28mm) F4 @ 1 / 15 sec. F4.5 @ 1 / 10 sec. (G11 in 30.5mm/140mm) An f1.4 lens is 2 stops faster than an f2.8 lens in order to obtain the same speed shutter with the G11 as the f1.4 lens ISO we would have to be 3200 (ISO 3200 is 2 stops faster than ISO 800). To maintain the same shutter speed with the G11 as the zoom of 30.5 millimeters and our f-stop drops to f4.5 ISO need a slightly higher than 6400. Unfortunately, unless you stumble upon a very good sale, you will need to increase your budget. The A230 and G11 are being sold in the approximately $ 500.00 and with the conversion factor 1.66 coin you are about 100 pounds under-funded. In my opinion, if you're serious about photography, the DSLR is the only viable option. Although ****** EDIT ****** I sympathize with the constraints of its budget, the two cameras you refer to are not the DSLR cameras. They are "bridge" cameras like the Canon G11. Both cameras have a smaller sensor also has an additional 2,000,000 pixels stuffed into a smaller space. This will only worsen the low light, high performance ISO. It's your money to spend as you wish, but in my opinion you would be wise to save a little more and go with a DSLR.
