Digital Cameras And Iso

What should I know about ISO in a digital camera?
I'm trying to learn to use my digital camera in dark w / o using the flash to experts out there. What is ISO and what should I set it up for the best results?
You can shoot at night without flash in any ISO setting if you have the option of leaving the shutter open for as long as you want. Just remember, the higher the ISO value, the more grainy or noisy, its image be. Since you do not indicate its purpose or how it would be lit (you will need some type of light or you will not have a picture), it is difficult predict the duration of exposure should be given at any aperature. I suggest a remote release and a very stable tripod and do a little research on the net to get an idea for how long. Then, the media (more or less stops) around the positions suggested that you find your subject. Good luck and hope to take many shots to get what you're looking for.
