Any suggestions on the point and shoot digital camera to capture the action … children etc?

I have a canon and now he is sllllllooooowwww sooooo. by the time it takes a picture of my baby is no longer smiling or rolling over, etc. I want very good quality, so I can make great images, but I really I want something fast, small and campact. Any suggestions?
