Digital Still Cameras (DSC) or digital SLR cameras were designed to capture still images. If they have the ability to capture video, video is generally very highly compressed audio is my – not stereo … and they behave badly in the video capturing low light. camcorders have been designed to capture video (and audio happens when video is captured). They are generally not a very good job of capturing stills – consumer camcorders, but many have the ability to take low / medium resolution stills. If you want good stills, or use a good SLR DSC. If you want good video and audio, use a good camcorder. "Digital" means that information photography, video information or audio informaiton is stored as a series of zeros and ones that can be a interprested computer or a computer chip with the appropriate firmware embedded in the chip. Flash memory (like SD card or Compact Flash or Memory Stick) drive drive, DVD and mini DV cassette are all digital storage media most commonly used by consumer cameras and camcorders. There are many differences between them, but one of the most revealing which are important for the person using includes the compression ratio applied to the image (or video) or stream digital audio. More compression = outboard digital information = reduced quality. Your goal is to find the least amount compression combined with spending and ability to work with your image or audio stream process … and what makes sense for you and your budget. For camcorders, Contines miniDV tape to provide the best qulaity video available when you compare same price range of camcorders using different media for storage. For standard definition DV and HDV to HD is less compressed, the consumer digital video formats. Then come the best consumer disk drive (HDD) and flash memory camcorders that use very highly compressed MPEG2 (SD) and AVCHD (HD) video formats. DVD camcorders basic apply the more compression and barely useful doorstops – and that's all I'll say about them. In the professional world, DV / HDV is the same as the global consumers – which is why they continue to use (mainly) based miniDV camcorder. Check the Sony HVR, and XLH Canon XH series camcorders and JVC GY. There are some less lossy formats (such as Panasonic DVCPRO and XDCAM / HDCAM Sony, but they will not be treated here. In the professional world where memory flash is used (like the Panasonic AG-DVX or AG-HDX series) or when hard disk drive (external as the series of Focus Enhancements FireStore) are used, they record to DV and HDV, and not the high compression of average consumers. Even in the case of AVCHD (Panasonic that uses a line pro camcorders, the digital stream is much less compressed than the (anemia) consumer version of the AVCHD format. Back to Camcorders … Your link took us to a peripheral Pocket flip. If you want to do more than record a clip and does not care about video quality or audio quality, while the device is fine. Please keep in mind that the lens is VERY small and the imaging chip is tiny. If you want a good video, you must enter under conditions of good lighting. If the light level is low, the captured video is very grainy. In addition, this device no audio control. Loud Audio will not record well … even for its very low. This is similar to video and audio captured by your camera. The record time may be a little longer, but not much. On the other hand, real camcorders can record several hours of video – And the batteries are exhausted (get extra rechargeable batteires extra large capacity) before the exhaustion of the media – with cassette miniDV, make additional bands (one hour per tape) or a flash memory to carry a memory card or HDD camcorders, the internal hard disk varies 40 to 120 gig or more which allows for hours of video capture before completing the drive. So … How long do you need to register for and what kind of quality video and audio you need? Expect to change the audio or video you capture? I put these kinds of devices in the "toy" line … Or perhaps use to get rid of a building to see what it looks like fall …
