Canon 5D MKII questions …. battery and focusing …?

Can anyone explain how to focus properly with this …. camera body:) I had some great shots, but I seem to be lack of clarity and should not be like I have nice lens .. ie. 17-40mm f4.0L and 70-200mm IS F2.8L …… I use a tripod more often …. not so sure I am mucking up. Just upgraded from a ……. 30D so still learning! HELP:) DUH … I forgot to mention that the battery .. How long should it last? Mine died me after 100 photos … and that, from what I hear, is not good!

You must first load the battery. Then see if you manually can focus on a vertical object and have the same sharp object in the picture. You must turn it to OFF, AutoFocus OFF for this test manual focus. 1.
