Camera Lenses Theory

What camera would be better?
I'm taking two photography classes next semester. Here are two descriptions of the course: Introductory Photography This course is an introduction to photography today. Camera operations, exposure control, the theory of composition, processing imaging and printing using today's software applications are covered. Students must have a digital camera with manual exposure capabilities. Photography black and white This course is an introduction to photography in black and white. Basic camera operations, exposure control, composition, film processing, enlarging and printing will be covered. Students must have a single lens 35mm camera with manual controls. I am looking for cameras are not very expensive. Thank you!
Although there are compact cameras with manual capability would suggest a DSLR for the first course. For the second film course based there are thousands of 35mm SLR goes to very little. The classic film camera 35 mm for the students is the Pentax K1000, built like a tank, all mechanic with TTL metering. You get a lot of camera for very little money. If you also get a DSLR lenses Pentax K1000 could be used that is not the case with the Canon and Nikon both have changed their lens mount over the years. Pentax was built in compatibility as they have not changed their lens mounting base since 1968. Chris
