How long do you need for your safari?
We are often asked about how long to stay on safari in the Kruger National Park. We usually between 2-4 nights like this really gives you a chance to see a wide range of animals and have some time to relax and enjoy the beautiful facilities in the camps.
Safari Seasons:
(With thanks to Singita Lodges for the use of this information)
November and December are the months of summer hot and humid, with or continuous rainfall or too late showers that usually typically clear before the game drives away .. Lots of young animals are born during this time, including the Impala lambs, which are beautiful but vulnerable to predators.
January-March
These are usually the driest month, with very hot days. There are lots of beautiful migratory birds during periods of summer. Units in the morning with the returns early to escape the heat are typical.
April
The vegetation begins to change from thick lush green bush to a bush a little more scarce browning during this autumn. Temperatures begin to cool down overnight, but during the day is still warm. Potential scattered showers may be experienced in the afternoons.
June Power
The low temperatures are experienced at night and at dawn, during the winter months. Warm clothing is recommended, such as gloves, scarves, caps and jackets alone. Large herds of elephants are very mobile. The vegetation becomes totally brown and trees start losing leaves. Visibility during drives is enhanced due to sparse vegetation.
July September
This period is very dry in the bush with very cold night temperatures, so cold during dawn and drives the game late in the afternoon. Game viewing is generally fantastic and the visibility is good and The Game is concentrated around any source water.
September-October for spring is the height of the dry season sporting hot dry winds and sparse vegetation colorless. Because the rivers and dams are low concentrations of game can be seen in these areas and game viewing in general is very good. The first rains of May beginning in late October and signs spring and a new wet season are evident.
