Camera Lenses for Dummies

camera lenses for dummies
Should I buy a Sony Alpha A300 or a Canon Digital Rebel XSi?

I plan to buy a digital SLR instead of a Point-and-Shoot camera. Before someone tells me will not be able to put it in my pocket, I do not care about portability. I love Sony and Canon also know how great. For me it is difficult compare the two, so I'm here asking for help with my purchase. I'm not an expert with the photos, but I'm really serious about their quality. So I found two cameras that I can pay (see the title) and I believe one of the best I can find today. Please answer the questions, then I'll make sure I have the best choice: What is the best for beginners like me? Why? Which is better? Why? (I do not care about mega pixels) What was the best video mode? What about Live View? And the lenses? I do not know anything about it … I also like to have advice for dummies like me and if you had any experience with the A300K or the XSi, share with us. Make sure by next week I will choose the best answer. Win!

The Pavlovian response is almost always CANON! NIKON! as if there were other options. Fortunately, I have done some research and found that there are alternatives. One thing to consider is that Sony has their version of Stabilization Image / Vibration Reduction (IS / VR), the camera body. This means that all lenses used have this benefit. Canon and Nikon incorporate their IS / VR in the lens so you have to pay more for it with all lenses. Yes, there is evidence that having it on the lens gives slightly better results. If you go the http://www.shutterbug.com and type 'Konica-Minolta 5D' in the search box, you will find a proof that the camera (a direct ancestor of the cameras Sony DSLR). During the test, the author took a picture of a yacht anchored, using a 36mm lens equivalent. He got one with the IS / VR off and one with him. Both images have the same appearance – Until a small section is enlarged. The one taken with the IS / VR on is much sharper. So IS / VR is useful, even with focal lengths. Advantage: All A300 Sony talks about the number of lenses available for Canon and Nikon, as the selection of the lens for the A300 is limited. In fact, the selection of the lens for the A300 is very large – it can use every Minolta Maxxum AF lens made since 1985. In addition, Sony has a line of Carl Zeiss lenses available. Do not forget that each of these lenses have the benefit of in-camera IS / VR. Canon and Nikon can not say that. Live View of the A300 works with auto focus. The screen also turns down or up. So if you're in the crowd and having to hold the camera over your head to get the image just flip the screen down and you can compose and photograph. If you are taking macro photos of mushrooms and has the camera at ground level just flip the screen up, compose and record. IMO this is a valuable resource. Advantage: Sony A300 After making your purchase, plan to spend some time to actually read & STUDY the Owner's Manual. A company called The Magic Lantern publishes a companion book that should be useful as you learn to use the A300. You can find it on amazon.com. Good luck! "The images are not taken, they are made." Ansel Adams. "Best wide-angle lens? Two steps back. Look for the" ah-ha. "Ernst Haas" If your pictures are not good enough you not close enough. Robert Capa
