CCD camcorders? What are they?

I want to buy a new camcorder and buyers guide John Lewis said that if you want a picture of quality you need to have three CCD. 1. What is CCD? 2. What is the best camcorder to get, with three CCD under £ 1000?

If you want a Harddrive camcorder then go for the Sony SR11. Both devices are very well and are in the price range £ 600. If you are going to get the SR11 Sony Vegas Movie Studio 9 because this software can edit video files soon. I own the Sony SR11 and like it a lot. For the hard drive I can record for 600 minutes. Also the picture quality is very good and colorful, and works well in the dark. It also has a microphone and a camera things that you often see on most consumer cameras. The HV30 has these features as well and there are many people who like these cameras a lot. It depends if you want a hard drive or tape incorporating camera.
